3D Printing Filaments

What are 3D printing filaments?

3D printing has come a long way in recent years, and with the rise of affordable 3D printers, more people are getting involved in this exciting technology. One of the most important factors in 3D printing is the type of filament used, and if you’re looking to learn more about 3D printing, learning about filaments is a good place to start.

Filament is the material used to make a 3D printed object, and there are many different kinds of filament to choose from:

PLA (Polylactic Acid)- This is one of the more popular 3D printing filaments- and for good reason too. It’s easy to use, biodegradable and produces high-quality prints. PLA is made from renewable resources such as corn starch which makes it an eco-friendly option. You can also choose from a wide range of colours and it can be printed at relatively low temperatures.

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)- This is a strong and durable filament and it’s most commonly used for automotive parts or toys. It has good resistance to heat and chemicals which makes it a good choice for applications that require toughness and durability.

PET-G (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol)- This filament combines the strength and durability of ABS with the ease that comes with using PLA. It’s resistant to impact, heat and chemicals which makes it a good choice for a wide range of applications. PET-G is also transparent which makes it a suitable choice for applications that require a clear finish.
